FORT Friends serves as an umbrella group to unify several local trail groups, which is reflected in the composition of our Board of Directors. We believe different groups (cyclists, runners/hikers, equestrians, dog walkers, etc.) can enjoy public lands together through mutual respect and consideration. Our primary agency affiliation is with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on the Fort Ord National Monument. We also regularly meet with Fort Ord Reuse Authority staff regarding munitions clean-up status and safety. As former Army land is transferred to Monterey County, we plan to work with the Monterey County Resource Management Agency and Monterey County Parks Department regarding open space and trail opportunities.
